Please Tell Us Before You Book

Feet are the one place where a beauty treatment genuinely overlaps with health. Tell us if you have diabetes, reduced sensation in your feet, poor circulation, varicose veins, a history of blood clots, or have had recent surgery on your legs or feet. Any of those change the treatment, and for some of them we will leave the massage out entirely and keep everything gentle.

If a toenail is thickened, crumbling, discolored or lifting, or if there is an ingrown nail, an open cut or broken skin, we will not work on it or polish over it. Covering a possible infection traps it and hides it. We will say so plainly and suggest a podiatrist or your doctor.

A Fresh Liner Goes In Before You Sit Down

The Treatment

Spa Pedicure Or Classic Pedicure

A classic pedicure is forty minutes of maintenance. Soak, shape, cuticle work, a light pass over hard skin, polish. It keeps your feet tidy and it does the job perfectly well if nothing much is wrong.

A spa pedicure is sixty minutes and adds the three things that actually change how your feet feel rather than how they look. A longer soak with a proper softener, real exfoliation and callus reduction, and ten minutes of massage through the foot and lower leg.

That massage is not a garnish. It is the reason people book this appointment on a bad week, and it is the first thing cut short in most salons when the diary slips. Ours is timed, and if we are running behind you will be told at the start rather than quietly given four minutes.

  • 01A foot and nail health check. Nails, skin and circulation looked at before anything begins. If something needs a doctor rather than a therapist, we say so.
  • 02A fresh liner and a pipe free tub. Fitted in front of you. No internal plumbing means nothing to harbor anything between clients.
  • 03A ten minute soak with softener. Long enough for hard skin to genuinely soften, which is what makes callus work effective and gentle rather than aggressive.
  • 04Nails cut straight across. Never curved down into the corners. This one detail is the single biggest preventable cause of ingrown toenails.
  • 05Cuticle work without cutting. Softened and pushed back, with only dead tissue removed. The living seal at the base is left intact.
  • 06Callus reduction with a file, never a blade. Reduced to comfortable, not stripped to nothing. There is a full section on why below.
  • 07Exfoliation to the knee. Sugar or salt scrub through the foot and lower leg, then removed with hot towels.
  • 08Ten minutes of massage. Foot, ankle and lower leg, worked upward toward the heart. Timed and protected.
  • 09Polish or gel, and written aftercare. Regular polish included, gel available as an add on and lasting four to six weeks on toes.
Which should you book. Classic at $45 if your feet are in good shape and you want them tidy. Spa at $65 if there is hard skin to deal with, or if you want the hour to actually feel like something.
Section 01ON THE DAY

The Ten Stages Of Your Appointment

Sixty minutes. Stage one and stage six are the two that separate a pedicure that helps your feet from one that only decorates them.

Section 02THE TUB QUESTION

Why Pipe Free Tubs Matter

Every so often a news story appears about a group of people who developed serious skin infections after pedicures at the same salon. It is not a scare story and it is not rare, and the cause is almost always the same piece of equipment.

A jetted footspa circulates water through internal plumbing to create the bubbles. That plumbing is behind the tub wall, it never fully drains, and it is extremely difficult to disinfect properly no matter how carefully staff scrub the visible basin between clients. Warm, damp, dark and undrained is close to ideal conditions for bacteria.

Our tubs have no jets and no pipes at all. There is nothing behind the wall for anything to sit in. On top of that, a fresh disposable liner goes in before every single client, so your feet never touch the tub surface itself.

Pipe free pedicure tub with a fresh disposable liner at Erothots
The Full Standard
  • No jets, no pipes, nothing recirculating. The single most important hygiene decision in a pedicure room, and it is a purchasing decision rather than a cleaning routine.
  • A new liner for every client. Fitted in front of you and binned afterwards, so your skin never contacts the basin at all.
  • Metal tools are autoclaved. Cleaned, bagged and steam sterilized under pressure, then opened at your chair. Wiping clippers with alcohol is not sterilization.
  • Files and pumice are single use. They are porous, so they cannot be disinfected. Fresh from the packet, binned at the end, or labeled and kept for you if you prefer.
  • Towels are laundered hot and used once. Including the hot towels used for the scrub removal, which never come back for a second client.
  • Nothing is polished over. If a nail looks like it needs a doctor, we tell you instead of covering it. It costs us the booking and it is the right call.
How to check anywhere else. Ask two questions. Are your tubs pipe free, and are your files single use. A salon doing it properly will answer straight away and be glad you asked. Hesitation is the answer.
Section 03CALLUS WORK

Callus Care, Done Properly And Legally

Plenty of salons take hard skin off with a credo blade, a foot razor or a shaver. It is fast, the result on the day looks dramatic, and it is cutting living tissue. In many states that is outside what a cosmetologist or nail technician is licensed to do at all, and the risk of cutting too deep is real.

There is also a reason not to do it even where it is permitted. A callus is your body's response to pressure and friction. Strip it away entirely and the body reads that as more exposure and rebuilds it thicker. This is why people who have hard skin bladed off end up needing it done again sooner every time.

Callus reduction with a foot file after soaking at Erothots
What We Do Instead
  • Soften first, always. A full ten minute soak plus a softening solution on the thickest areas. Softened callus files away easily, and hard callus does not, which is why rushed pedicures feel rough.
  • File and pumice only. Abrasive rather than cutting, so it cannot go deeper than the dead layer. Slower on the day and the reason your feet stay comfortable for longer.
  • Reduce rather than remove. We take a callus down to comfortable and leave the protective base. That is what stops the rebound where it comes back thicker each time.
  • Never on numb feet. If you have reduced sensation, particularly with diabetes or neuropathy, callus work is kept minimal and anything clinical goes to a podiatrist.
  • A real plan for cracked heels. Deep fissures need a urea based cream at home nightly plus repeat appointments. One session will not fix them and we will not pretend it does.
The honest expectation. Heavy callus takes two or three appointments four weeks apart to bring properly under control, plus daily cream at home. Any salon promising to fix it in one visit is either using a blade or overselling.
Section 04EIGHT OPTIONS

Pedicure Options And Add Ons

Three lengths of pedicure plus five add ons. Everything is quoted before we start, never added at the desk afterwards.

PEDI$45

Classic Pedicure

Soak, shape, cuticle work, light hard skin attention and polish, in forty minutes. The extended soak, full callus work, scrub and massage are all left out.

PEDI$65

Spa Pedicure

The full ten stage treatment. Long soak, callus reduction, scrub to the knee, hot towels and ten minutes of massage. This is the standard appointment.

PEDI$85

Deluxe Spa Pedicure

Everything in the spa pedicure plus an extended callus treatment, a foot mask under warm wraps and a twenty minute massage. Eighty minutes, and worth it after a hard season.

PEDI$60

Gentleman's Pedicure

The same treatment weighted toward callus work, ingrown prevention and nail thickness, finished with a buff rather than color. Fifty minutes.

ADD ON$35

Gel Toes

Gel instead of regular polish. Lasts four to six weeks on toes rather than two to three on hands, because toenails grow at roughly half the rate. The best value on the nail menu.

ADD ON$15

Callus Intensive

Extended softening and a longer filing stage for heavy build up or cracked heels. Best booked as a short course rather than a one off, with cream at home in between.

ADD ON$20

Paraffin Foot Treatment

Warm paraffin wrap after the scrub. Genuinely effective on dry, cracked winter skin, and comfortably the most pleasant twenty minutes on the whole menu.

ADD ON$5

Nail Art, Per Toe

Hand painted detail on toes, priced per nail exactly as on hands. A single accent toe costs five dollars rather than pushing you into a full set price.

Booking a manicure the same day. A gel manicure with a spa pedicure together is $100 rather than $110 booked separately, and it runs as one appointment of about an hour and fifty minutes.
Section 05WHY IT WORKS

Benefits And Advantages

What separates a pedicure that genuinely helps your feet from one that only makes them look tidy for a fortnight.

01

The Hygiene Risk Is Designed Out

Pipe free tubs plus a fresh liner every time. This is equipment rather than a cleaning promise, which is why it holds on a busy Saturday as well as a quiet Monday.

02

No Blades On Living Tissue

File and pumice over softened skin only. Slower, safer, within what a technician should be doing, and it avoids the rebound that makes callus return thicker.

03

Nails Cut To Prevent Ingrowns

Straight across, never curved into the corners. It takes no extra time and it is the single biggest preventable cause of ingrown toenails.

04

The Massage Is Timed

Ten minutes, protected. If we are running late you are told at the start of your appointment rather than quietly given four.

05

Health Conditions Taken Seriously

Diabetes, neuropathy and clotting history all change what we do. We would rather do less and send you to a podiatrist than take a risk with your feet.

06

Gel Toes Last Six Weeks

Toenails grow at about half the rate of fingernails and your feet do far less to them. Thirty five dollars for six weeks is the best value in the building.

Section 06COMMON COMPLAINTS

What Usually Goes Wrong Elsewhere

Six things clients describe about a pedicure somewhere else. Two of them are comfort issues and four are genuine safety ones.

Jetted Footspas

Water circulated through internal plumbing that never fully drains and cannot be properly disinfected. This is the specific piece of equipment behind the infection stories that reach the news.

Here InsteadPipe free tubs with a fresh disposable liner for every client, fitted in front of you.

A Blade Taken To Calluses

Fast and dramatic on the day. It is cutting living tissue, it is outside what a technician is licensed to do in many states, and the callus returns thicker each time.

Here InsteadFile and pumice over properly softened skin, reducing rather than stripping.

Nails Curved Into The Corners

It looks neater for a fortnight, then the sidewall skin closes over the shortened corner and the regrowing nail digs in. This is how most ingrown toenails start.

Here InsteadCut straight across with only the sharp corners softened by file.

The Soak Cut To Three Minutes

The diary is full, so the soak is shortened. Hard skin never softens, so the filing has to be aggressive to achieve anything, and it feels rough because it is.

Here InsteadA full ten minutes with softener, which is what makes the rest gentle.

The Massage Quietly Shortened

Four minutes instead of ten when things run late. Nobody complains about it at the time. They simply do not come back, and the salon never connects the two.

Here InsteadTimed at ten minutes, and you are told at the start if we are running behind.

Polished Over A Problem

A thickened or discolored toenail painted over rather than mentioned. It seals the problem in and the client finds out months later how long it had been developing.

Here InsteadWe tell you and suggest a podiatrist. We would rather lose the polish than hide something.
Section 07HONEST TRADE OFFS

Things To Consider Before You Book

01

Heavy Callus Takes A Course

Two or three appointments four weeks apart, plus a urea cream nightly at home. One visit brings it down but will not fix it, and we will say so rather than overselling.

02

Regular Polish Marks In Shoes

It needs a good hour to harden fully. Closed shoes straight afterwards will dent it. Bring open shoes, or add gel at $35 and the problem disappears entirely.

03

Some Things Belong To A Podiatrist

Ingrown nails needing removal, suspected fungal infection, verrucas and anything painful are medical. We will treat around them or stop, and tell you where to go.

04

The Massage May Be Left Out

If you have a clotting history, varicose veins or recent leg surgery, we will skip it. You still get the full treatment and the price does not change.

Section 08PRICE GUIDE

The best value combination. A spa pedicure with gel toes at $100 lasts four to six weeks. That works out at roughly the cost of a coffee a week for feet you do not have to think about, and it is why most regulars book it that way.
Section 09BEFORE AND AFTER

Preparation And Aftercare

Very little preparation is needed, but two of the items below are worth reading properly because they affect your safety rather than your polish.

Ten minute foot and lower leg massage during a spa pedicure
Before
  • Do not shave your legs that day. Freshly shaved skin has micro abrasions, and warm water plus scrub over them stings and raises the infection risk unnecessarily. The day before is fine.
  • Tell us about health conditions at booking. Diabetes, neuropathy, circulation problems, varicose veins, clotting history or recent leg surgery. Not on the day, so we can plan the appointment properly.
  • Bring open shoes. Or sandals. Regular polish needs an hour to harden and closed shoes will dent it, which undoes an hour of work on the walk to the car.
  • Do not cut your own calluses beforehand. It makes our work harder, not easier, and home blade tools are the single commonest cause of a cut foot we see.
  • Say if you are arriving with gel on your toes. Removal takes twenty minutes and we need it in the slot rather than running late for everyone after you.
Afterwards
  • Foot cream nightly. A urea based cream if you have callus or cracked heels. This is where the actual improvement comes from, and it does more than the appointment did.
  • Keep polish dry for an hour. Regular polish is still soft when you leave. Gel is fully set the moment you stand up, which is much of the reason people add it.
  • Do not pick gel off toes. Toenails are thinner than fingernails, so picking does proportionally more damage. Removal is free when you rebook.
  • Wear socks that let feet breathe. Damp warm shoes all day are what causes the fungal problems that stop us being able to polish next time.
  • Rebook at four to six weeks. Toenails grow at roughly half the rate of fingernails, so the rhythm is naturally slower than for a manicure.

Who Will Do Your Pedicure

You can request anyone by name when you book. If they are unavailable on your date we will tell you rather than quietly reassign you.

Joslyn Reyes, nail technician at the Erothots beauty salon
Nail Technician

Joslyn Reyes

Joslyn runs the nail side of the salon. She is strict about the soak time, which sounds like a small thing until you have had callus work done on skin that was never properly softened. She is also the person who will tell you a toenail needs a podiatrist rather than a coat of polish, which is not a conversation most technicians are willing to have.

Section 11COMMON QUESTIONS

Spa Pedicure Questions

What Is The Difference Between A Classic And A Spa Pedicure

A classic pedicure is forty minutes of maintenance at $45. Soak, shape, cuticle work, light hard skin attention and polish. A spa pedicure is sixty minutes at $65 and adds a full ten minute soak with softener, proper callus reduction, a scrub to the knee with hot towels, and ten minutes of foot and lower leg massage.

How Much Does A Spa Pedicure Cost

A spa pedicure starts at $65 for sixty minutes. Classic is $45, deluxe is $85 and the gentleman's pedicure is $60. Gel toes add $35, callus intensive $15 and paraffin $20. A gel manicure with a spa pedicure booked together is $100.

Are Your Pedicure Tubs Safe

They are pipe free, which is the part that matters. Jetted footspas circulate water through internal plumbing that never fully drains and cannot be reliably disinfected, and that is the specific equipment behind the infection cases that reach the news. Ours have no jets or pipes at all, plus a fresh disposable liner for every client.

Do You Use A Blade On Calluses

No. Credo blades and foot razors cut living tissue, which is outside what a nail technician is licensed to do in many states, and the risk of going too deep is real. We soften properly first and then use a file and pumice, which cannot cut past the dead layer.

How Often Should I Have A Pedicure

Every four to six weeks. Toenails grow at roughly half the rate of fingernails, so the rhythm is naturally slower than for a manicure. If you are bringing heavy callus under control, four weeks apart for the first two or three appointments works considerably better.

Can I Have A Pedicure If I Have Diabetes

In most cases yes, with the treatment adjusted. Tell us at booking rather than on the day. Callus work is kept minimal, cuticles are not cut at all, water temperature is checked carefully and we work gently throughout. Anything clinical, including ingrown nails or reduced sensation, should go to a podiatrist rather than a salon.

Can I Have A Pedicure With A Fungal Nail

We will not file or polish a nail that looks infected, because sealing it under polish traps it and hides how it is progressing. We can still treat the healthy nails and the skin. Please see a doctor or podiatrist first, and come back to us once it is being treated.

How Long Does Gel Last On Toes

Four to six weeks, roughly double what it lasts on hands. Toenails grow at about half the rate and your feet simply do far less to them. At $35 added to a pedicure it is the best value on the entire nail menu, and it is completely set when you stand up.

Do You Cut Toenails Straight Across

Always. Curving a toenail down into the corners looks neater for a fortnight, then the sidewall skin closes over the shortened corner and the regrowing nail digs into it. That is how most ingrown toenails begin, and cutting straight with only the sharp corners softened prevents it.

Can I Have A Pedicure While Pregnant

Generally yes, and many people find it one of the more welcome treatments late on. Tell us at booking so we can keep pressure light around the ankles and adjust your position for comfort. If you have any concerns, particularly about swelling or circulation, that is a conversation for you and your doctor rather than for us.

What If I Have An Ingrown Toenail

If it is red, swollen or painful, that is a podiatrist rather than a salon and we will tell you so. If it is early and simply uncomfortable, we can relieve the edge and cut correctly to stop it worsening. What we will not do is dig at it, which is how a mild ingrown becomes an infected one.

How Soon Before A Holiday Should I Book

Two to three days before you travel. That gives any callus work time to settle and means polish is fresh for the whole trip. Add gel toes and it will comfortably outlast a two week holiday without a single chip, which is why most people book it that way before flying.
