Patch Test Required For Tints And Lifts

Any treatment involving tint, lash lift solution or brow lamination needs a patch test at least forty eight hours beforehand. That includes clients we have treated for years, because sensitivity can develop at any point and a reaction this close to the eye is not something to gamble with. It takes two minutes at the desk.

Threading and shaping need no patch test at all, so those can be booked same day. Please also tell us if you are taking oral isotretinoin, using a retinoid around the eye area, or have had a recent eye infection or procedure.

This Is The Room Erothots Was Built In

Every other page on this site describes a service. This one describes the reason the business exists. Erothots started as an Instagram page called Lashes By Tia, run around a full time job, doing friends at a kitchen table with no plan for it to become anything.

It became something because the work was good and people talked. Seven years later there is a fashion studio, a hair salon and a skincare room, and none of it would be here without this category. That matters practically as well as sentimentally, because it means brows and lashes are not a sideline we added to fill the menu. They are the thing we have been doing longest.

Tia still takes a limited number of lash appointments each week, which is not something most salon owners do once the business is running. It is also why the standards on this page are not negotiable. Patch tests without exception, mapping before shaping, and nobody talked into a shape that will not suit them.

A twisted cotton thread rolled across the skin, catching hairs and lifting them out at the follicle. It removes a whole row at a time with far more precision than tweezing and none of the heat, chemicals or skin pulling that waxing involves.

Because nothing touches the skin except thread, it suits sensitive skin, rosacea and anyone using retinoids around the brow, all of which make waxing a genuinely bad idea. Regrowth comes back in four to five weeks, finer each time.

Threading removes hair. Shaping decides which hair. This appointment starts with brow mapping, measuring the start, arch and tail against your own bone structure, then threads to that plan and finishes with trimming and brushing.

It is the appointment to book if your brows have grown out badly, if you have over plucked in the past, or if you have never actually had them designed rather than just tidied. After one shaping, threading maintains it.

03 Patch Test Needed

Lash Lift

Lash lift treatment being carried out at the Erothots salon

Your own lashes curled upward from the root and set in place. They are moulded over a silicone shield, treated with a lifting solution, then a setting solution, then nourished. No extensions are added and nothing is glued on.

The effect is eyes that look open without mascara, and it lasts six to eight weeks, which is a full growth cycle. There are no infills to book and nothing to maintain daily, which is why so many people move to this from extensions and stay.

Fifteen minutes, no chemicals, no lifting of the skin. Frequently added to a brow appointment and finished before you have properly settled into the chair.

Full Face Threading

Brows, upper lip, chin, cheeks and forehead. Considerably kinder to the skin than waxing the whole face, and the regrowth comes back softer rather than blunt.

Booking two together. A lift with a tint, or lamination with a tint, is cheaper as one appointment than two and needs only one patch test. Mention both when you enquire and we will book the right length of slot.

The Method

Brow Mapping, And Why We Do It First

Most brow appointments start with someone picking up a thread and beginning at the tail. Ours start with a measurement. Three points are marked against your own bone structure, and everything after that is executing a plan rather than improvising.

It takes about four minutes, it is free, and it is the entire difference between brows that suit your face and brows that follow whatever shape is trending. It is also the only reliable protection against the thing everybody fears, which is coming out with them too thin.

The Three Points
Point 01

The Start

Measured vertically from the outer edge of the nostril. Starting further in than this narrows the face and is the commonest cause of brows that look severe.

Point 02

The Arch

Found on a line from the nostril through the outer edge of the iris. Placed too far in it looks surprised, too far out it drags the eye down. This point does most of the work.

Point 03

The Tail

A diagonal from the nostril past the outer corner of the eye. A tail that finishes short of this ages the eye, and a tail that drops below the start does the same.

Symmetry is a goal, not a promise. Nobody has a symmetrical face. Brows are sisters rather than twins, and a good brow artist works with your bone structure instead of forcing two identical shapes onto an asymmetrical face. Anyone promising perfect symmetry is going to take too much off one side.

How Your Appointment Works

Six stages. The first one happens before you arrive if your treatment involves any tint or solution.

Patch Test, Two Days Ahead

For tints, lash lifts and lamination only. Two minutes at the desk, and it applies to regulars as much as to new clients because sensitivity can develop at any time.

The Consultation

What you like about your brows now, what you do not, and what you were hoping for. We also ask what you use at home, because filling in daily changes what shape will actually suit you.

Mapping And Marking

Start, arch and tail measured and marked in white pencil. You see the plan on your own face and approve it before a single hair is removed.

04

The Treatment

Threading, lifting or laminating. You are checked in with regularly, and if anything is uncomfortable it is adjusted immediately rather than pushed through.

Soothe And Finish

Cool compress and a calming serum over the area, then brows brushed through and trimmed. Any pinkness settles within twenty to thirty minutes.

Check And Rebook

You see the result in a hand mirror in daylight before you leave. If anything needs adjusting we do it now, and we tell you honestly when to come back.

We do not offer lash extensions. Done badly they damage the natural lash, and doing them properly needs a full time technician rather than a service squeezed onto a mixed menu. If extensions are genuinely what you want, we would rather say so than sell you a lift and have you disappointed.

What Usually Goes Wrong Elsewhere

Six things clients tell us about their last brow or lash appointment. Brows are the treatment people cry about, and it is almost always one of these.

No Mapping, Straight In

The thread starts at the tail with no plan. Each side is corrected against the other, then corrected again, and thirty seconds later there is far less brow than anybody intended.

Chasing Symmetry

One brow sits slightly higher, so hair is taken off the other to match. Then the first is corrected again. This is exactly how brows end up too thin, and it is the single most common brow disaster.

The Patch Test Skipped

Tint applied with no test because the client is in a hurry or the salon is behind. Reactions to tint are uncommon but they happen millimetres from the eye and they can be serious.

Waxing On Retinoid Skin

Nobody asks about retinol or acids, so wax is applied to skin that has been chemically thinned. It lifts the surface layer and leaves a raw patch that takes days to settle.

Things To Consider Before You Book

Tints And Lifts Need Notice

The patch test rule means no same day booking for anything involving solution. Allow three days. Threading and shaping can be booked same day.

Growing Out Takes Months

If your brows have been over plucked, rebuilding the shape can take three to six months of leaving them alone. We will map a plan, but nobody can speed up hair.

03

A Lift Adds No Length

It curls and opens what you have. If your lashes are genuinely short or sparse, a lift will be a disappointment and extensions would suit you better.

Threading Stings At First

Sharp for a few seconds across the sensitive parts, then it stops. Almost everybody finds it easier by the second appointment, but the first is honestly not nothing.

Before And After

Preparation And Aftercare

Brows need very little preparation. Lash lifts need almost none beforehand and a great deal of restraint for the first day afterwards.

Before You Arrive
  • Book the patch test first. Forty eight hours ahead for any tint, lift or lamination. Without it the appointment cannot go ahead.
  • Come with no eye makeup. For lash treatments especially. Mascara residue stops the solution binding evenly and the result suffers.
  • Do not pluck for two weeks. We need the hair there to map with. Tidying beforehand removes the very hairs that would have shaped the arch.
  • Say if you use retinol near the eye. It changes what is safe, and it is exactly why we thread rather than wax.
  • Bring your brow pencil. If you fill them in daily, we should see the shape you have been drawing before deciding what to leave.
Afterwards
  • No water on lashes for twenty four hours. The set is still curing. Steam, showers and crying all count, and this is the rule people break most.
  • No mascara for forty eight hours after a lift. Most people find they stop wearing it altogether, which is rather the point.
  • Do not rub or sleep face down. For the first night, a lift can be flattened on one side by a pillow and it will stay that way.
  • Brush lashes daily with a clean spoolie. Ten seconds, and it keeps the curl even for the full eight weeks.
  • Keep tinted brows dry for twelve hours. Tint continues developing after you leave, and washing early takes a noticeable amount of it off.

What Is Eyebrow Threading

A twisted cotton thread is rolled across the skin, catching hairs and lifting them out at the follicle. It removes a whole row at once with more precision than tweezing, and nothing but thread ever touches the skin, which is why it suits sensitive skin and anyone using retinoids.

Threading Or Waxing, Which Is Better For Brows

Threading, and it is not close for brow work. Wax removes whole sections at once and lifts surface skin with it, which is a real problem on retinoids or sensitive skin. Threading takes hair by hair, uses no heat or chemicals, and gives a far more precise line. We do not wax brows at all.

How Much Does It Cost

Mapping is free. Upper lip threading starts at $15, eyebrow threading and brow tint at $25, lash tint at $30, shaping at $35, henna and full face threading at $55, lamination at $75, lash lift at $85, lamination and tint at $95 and lash lift and tint at $110.

Does Threading Hurt

It stings sharply for a few seconds across the more sensitive areas, then it stops. Most people find the second appointment noticeably easier than the first. It is quicker than tweezing and most clients describe it as more comfortable than waxing.

What Is Brow Mapping

A lift if your natural lashes are a decent length but point downward, since it opens the eye with no ongoing maintenance. Extensions if your lashes are short or sparse and you want real length and drama. We do not offer extensions, and we will tell you honestly if that is what would actually suit you.

Do I Need A Patch Test

Can I Wear Makeup Afterwards
