Erothots Beauty Salon

Massage And Body By Erothots, Deep Tissue And Scrubs

Pressure agreed on a scale before anything starts, not guessed at and asked about once. And sixty minutes means sixty minutes of hands on the table, with the consultation and changing time on top rather than taken out of it.

Please Tell Us Before You Book

Massage moves blood and lymph around the body, which is exactly why some conditions need a doctor's clearance first. Tell us if you have a history of blood clots or are taking anticoagulants, have uncontrolled high blood pressure, are undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment, have had recent surgery, or have any fracture, active infection or fever. Some of those mean we adapt the treatment and some mean we ask you to speak to your doctor first.

For body scrubs, we cannot treat sunburned or broken skin, an eczema or psoriasis flare, or skin that has been waxed in the last forty eight hours or shaved in the last twenty four. Tell us at booking and we will simply move the appointment rather than turn you away at the door.

Section 01 / The Core Two

Deep Tissue And Body Scrub

One works into the muscle and one works on the skin. They are the two treatments people book most, they are the two with their own pages, and they are considerably better together than separately.

Deep tissue massage at the Erothots beauty salon
Treatment 01From $95

Deep Tissue Massage

Slow, sustained pressure into the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue around it, aimed at specific areas rather than the whole body evenly. This is the treatment for a shoulder that has been tight for months, not for an hour of drifting off.

It should feel like good discomfort and never like pain. Pain makes a muscle guard against the pressure, which is precisely the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.

  • Length60 or 90 minutes
  • PressureFour to five on our scale
  • Best ForKnots, chronic tightness, posture
Body scrub treatment at the Erothots beauty salon
Treatment 02From $70

Body Scrub

A full body exfoliation with a salt or sugar preparation worked over every area, then rinsed and finished with oil. Forty five minutes, and the difference in how skin feels afterward is the most immediate result of anything on this menu.

It is the treatment to book before a holiday, before a self tan, or simply when winter has left your skin dull and rough to the touch. It also prepares the skin beautifully for a massage.

  • Length45 minutes, or 75 with a wrap
  • FinishRinsed, then oiled
  • Best ForDull skin, pre holiday, pre tan
Booked together, the scrub goes first. Always. Exfoliated skin absorbs massage oil considerably better, and doing it the other way round means scrubbing the oil straight back off again. A scrub followed by a sixty minute massage is $135 rather than $165 booked separately, and it runs as one appointment of just under two hours.
Section 02 / The Method

Pressure Is Agreed, Not Guessed

Almost every massage anywhere begins the same way. The therapist asks whether the pressure is alright, once, in the first two minutes, and the client says yes because saying no feels rude. Then they spend an hour either bored or braced.

We do it differently. Before you are on the table you tell us a number between one and five, and we tell you what each number actually means so it is not an abstraction. Then we check at three set points during the treatment rather than once at the start, and you can change the number at any moment without it being a comment on anybody's work.

This matters more than it sounds. Too light and nothing changes in the tissue. Too heavy and the muscle guards against the pressure, tightening rather than releasing, which is the exact opposite of the point.

If you are holding your breath, it is too much. That is not toughness, it is a muscle bracing.
One, Very Light

Barely more than contact. For lymphatic work, extreme sensitivity or anyone recovering.

Two, Relaxing

Long flowing strokes, nothing that grips. This is a Swedish massage done properly.

Three, Medium

Noticeable and comfortable. The most requested level and the right starting point for most people.

Four, Firm

Working into the muscle rather than over it. Good discomfort, and where deep tissue begins.

Five, Deep

Slow, sustained work into a specific knot. Intense but never sharp, and never held past your breath.

Deep does not mean painful. Sharp, burning or radiating pain is a signal to stop, not a sign it is working. Good deep tissue pressure is intense in a way you can breathe through, and if you cannot breathe through it we back off and come at it a different way.
Section 03 / Nine Treatments

The Full Menu

Five massages and four body treatments. Every massage includes the pressure conversation and the three checks, and every treatment gives you the full booked time hands on rather than counting your changing time as part of it.

Massage$45

Back, Neck And Shoulders

Thirty minutes on the area where almost everybody carries it. The most booked treatment here by a wide margin, and the easiest one to fit into a lunch hour.

Massage$50

Indian Head Massage

Scalp, neck, shoulders and upper back, done seated and fully clothed. Excellent for tension headaches, and the only massage here you can have on a work break without changing.

Massage$75

Targeted Sports Massage

Forty five minutes on one or two specific areas, with stretching worked in. For a particular problem rather than general tension, and popular before and after events.

Massage$80

Swedish Relaxation

Full body, long flowing strokes, pressure at two or three on the scale. This is the one to book when you want an hour of genuine rest rather than work done on a specific area.

Massage$85

Pregnancy Massage

From the second trimester, worked side lying with proper support rather than on your front. Sixty minutes, gentle pressure, and no deep work on the legs. Tell us your due date at booking.

Massage$110

Hot Stone Massage

Seventy five minutes, with warmed basalt stones used to work heat into the muscle before hands do. Heat opens tissue considerably faster than pressure alone, which is the whole idea.

Body$70

Body Scrub

Full body exfoliation with salt or sugar, rinsed and finished with oil. Forty five minutes, and the most immediate result of anything on the menu.

Body$75

Back Cleanse Treatment

A facial for the back. Cleanse, exfoliation, steam, extractions where needed and a mask. The area nobody can reach themselves, and the one people are most self conscious about.

Body$110

Scrub And Body Wrap

Seventy five minutes. Full exfoliation, then a nourishing wrap with time under warm blankets while it works, then a finishing oil. The most restful thing we offer.

Section 04 / How Long

Choosing A Length

The single most useful thing to understand about booking a massage. Thirty, sixty and ninety minutes are not the same treatment at different lengths. They are genuinely different treatments.

30Minutes On The Table

One Area, Properly

Enough for back, neck and shoulders or one specific problem area. Not enough for a full body, and any salon offering you a thirty minute full body is giving each area about three minutes.

From $45
60Minutes On The Table

Full Body, Or Deep Work

A genuine full body at moderate pressure, or focused deep tissue across two or three areas. The default booking and the right choice for most people most of the time.

From $80
90Minutes On The Table

Full Body And Deep Work

The only length that gives you both. Thirty extra minutes is what lets us cover everywhere and still spend real time on the shoulder that actually brought you in.

From $115
Sixty minutes here means sixty minutes of hands on you. The consultation before and getting dressed afterward sit outside the booked time rather than eating into it. It is worth asking that question anywhere you book, because in a great many places a sixty minute massage is fifty minutes on the table and nobody says so.
Private massage room with towels prepared at the Erothots salon

Private Room, Door Closed, Covered Throughout

Section 05 / In The Room

What Actually Happens

Massage asks you to undress and lie down in a room with somebody you may have never met. Nobody should have to guess how that part works, so here it is in advance.

  • You undress to your own comfort level. Most people keep underwear on. Some prefer not to. Both are completely normal and nobody will comment on either.
  • Your therapist leaves the room while you change. You get onto the table under the towels in private, and she knocks and waits before coming back in.
  • Only the area being worked is uncovered. The rest of you stays covered by towels at all times. When we move to a new area, the previous one is covered again first.
  • Sensitive areas are always draped. Chest and glutes remain covered throughout, and the towel is tucked and secured rather than simply laid over.
  • You do not have to talk. Some people want to chat and some want silence. Say which at the start and that is what you get, with no awkwardness either way.
  • You can stop at any point. Too much pressure, uncomfortable position, or simply having had enough. Say so and everything stops, with no explanation needed.
On falling asleep. It happens constantly, it is not rude, and it is arguably the best possible review. If you snore, nobody will mention it. If you would rather not drift off, ask for a little more pressure and it will keep you present.
Section 06 / A Sixty Minute Massage

How The Appointment Runs

Mapped out, so you know what you are booking. Note that the clock on the sixty minutes starts when hands go on, not when you walk through the door.

Before

Consultation, Fully Dressed

Health questions, what has been bothering you, which areas to focus on and which to avoid, and your pressure number with an explanation of what each level means. This sits outside the booked hour.

Before

Changing, In Private

Your therapist leaves, you undress to your comfort level and get onto the table under the towels. She knocks and waits. Also outside the booked hour.

0 To 20

Back, Shoulders And Neck

Where almost everybody carries tension, and where the most time goes. Warmed through with broader strokes first, then worked into properly once the tissue has softened.

20 To 24

First Pressure Check

Not a polite question in passing. A proper check now that we are into the deeper work, with a genuine invitation to move up or down a level.

24 To 40

Backs Of Legs And Arms

Calves, hamstrings and forearms. Frequently more tender than people expect, particularly for anyone who runs, cycles or spends the day at a keyboard.

40 To 44

Turn Over, Second Check

The towel is held so you can turn over underneath it. A moment to settle, and the second pressure check before we start on the front.

44 To 56

Fronts Of Legs, Arms And Hands

Quads, shins, forearms and hands. The hands are the section people are most surprised by and the one they most often ask for more of next time.

56 To 60

Scalp, Face And Finish

Scalp and temples to close, which is where most people stop being able to keep their eyes open. Then you are left alone to get up slowly in your own time.

Section 07 / Six Complaints

What Usually Goes Wrong Elsewhere

Six things clients describe about massage somewhere else. Most of them are about time and pressure, which are the two things that decide whether an hour was worth the money.

Fifty Minutes Sold As Sixty

Consultation, undressing and dressing all counted inside the booked hour. It is entirely standard and almost never mentioned, and it is ten minutes you paid for.

Here InsteadThe hour starts when hands go on. Everything before and after sits outside it.

Pressure Asked Once

Two minutes in, when nothing deep has happened yet. The client says it is fine, then spends fifty eight minutes either bored or braced and says nothing.

Here InsteadA number agreed beforehand and checked at three set points during the treatment.

Deep Tissue That Is Just Painful

Pressure pushed past what the client can breathe through, on the theory that more hurts more so it must work better. The muscle guards, tightens and releases nothing.

Here InsteadIntense but breathable. If you are holding your breath we back off and come at it differently.

Draping Done Carelessly

A towel laid loosely rather than tucked, sliding as the therapist works. Clients spend the hour quietly managing it instead of relaxing, and nobody says anything.

Here InsteadTowels tucked and secured, with only the working area uncovered at any moment.

Full Body In Thirty Minutes

Sold as good value. Divided across the whole body it is roughly three minutes per area, which is enough to apply oil and not much else.

Here InsteadThirty minutes is one area properly. Full body starts at sixty and we will say so.

No Health Questions

Straight onto the table with nothing asked. Massage moves blood and lymph, and there are genuine reasons certain conditions need clearance or adaptation first.

Here InsteadA proper consultation every visit, not only the first, because things change.
Section 08 / Price Guide

On courses. If you are working on a specific long standing problem, three or four appointments two weeks apart will do considerably more than one appointment repeated whenever things get bad. We will say when that applies to you, and you can book them one at a time rather than paying upfront.
Section 09 / Before

Preparing For A Treatment

  • Do not eat a large meal beforehand. An hour or two clear is ideal. Lying face down on a full stomach is uncomfortable and it makes abdominal and lower back work considerably less pleasant.
  • Arrive ten minutes early. Not to be rushed. The consultation sits outside your booked time, so arriving on the hour simply means starting the conversation on the hour.
  • Skip a heavy workout that morning. Deep tissue on already fatigued muscle leaves you considerably more sore the next day. Afterward is fine, the same day before is not ideal.
  • No body lotion or oil beforehand. For a scrub especially. Clean dry skin is what lets the exfoliant work rather than sliding over a layer of product.
  • Wait forty eight hours after waxing. And twenty four after shaving, before any body scrub. Freshly waxed skin plus a salt exfoliant is genuinely uncomfortable.
  • Say what has changed since last time. New medication, a new injury, pregnancy, or simply a different area bothering you. We ask every visit, not only the first.
Section 10 / After

The Next Forty Eight Hours

  • Drink more water than usual. Not because massage releases toxins, which is a claim we are not going to make, but because hydrated tissue simply recovers more comfortably.
  • Expect soreness after deep tissue. Twenty four to forty eight hours, similar to the day after a good workout. That is normal. Sharp or worsening pain is not, and we want to hear about it.
  • Move gently rather than resting completely. A walk the next day helps considerably more than a day on the sofa. Stiffness settles faster with movement.
  • Skip the heavy gym session. For twenty four hours after deep tissue. The muscle has had a workout of its own and stacking another on top is how people end up genuinely sore.
  • Leave the oil on for a few hours. After a massage or a scrub. It is still absorbing, and showering straight afterward removes most of the benefit of the finishing product.
  • Rebook before the tightness returns. Every four to six weeks for maintenance, or every two weeks if you are working on something specific. Waiting until it hurts again means starting over each time.
Section 11 / The Team

Who Will Treat You

You can request a therapist by name when you book, and for ongoing work on a specific problem most people end up booking the same person each time.

Selin Kaya

Selin handles all the massage and body work here. She introduced the pressure scale after years of clients telling her afterward that it had been too light, having said it was fine at the time. She is also the person who insisted the consultation sits outside the booked hour rather than inside it, which costs the salon ten minutes on every single booking and is completely correct.

Section 12 / Twelve Answers

Massage And Body Questions

How Much Does Massage Cost

Back, neck and shoulders from $45 for thirty minutes, Indian head massage $50, targeted sports $75, Swedish sixty minutes $80, pregnancy $85, deep tissue sixty minutes $95, hot stone $110 and deep tissue ninety minutes $135. Body scrub is $70, scrub with a wrap $110, and a scrub followed by a sixty minute massage is $135.

What Is The Difference Between Swedish And Deep Tissue

Swedish is long flowing strokes across the whole body at pressure two or three, for relaxation. Deep tissue is slow sustained pressure at four or five into specific areas, working the deeper muscle layers and the connective tissue around them. One is an hour of rest and the other is work being done on a problem.

Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt

It should be intense in a way you can breathe through, never sharp or burning. If you are holding your breath or clenching, it is too much, and that is not toughness, it is the muscle bracing against the pressure. A guarding muscle releases nothing, so pushing past that point is genuinely counterproductive.

Do I Have To Undress Completely

No. You undress to your own comfort level and most people keep underwear on. Your therapist leaves the room while you change and knocks before coming back in. Indian head massage is done seated and fully clothed if you would rather not undress at all.

Will I Be Covered The Whole Time

Yes. Only the area being worked on is uncovered at any moment, and it is covered again before we move on. Chest and glutes stay draped throughout, and the towels are tucked and secured rather than laid loosely, so nothing slides while you are trying to relax.

Do I Actually Get The Full Sixty Minutes

Yes, and it is worth asking that question anywhere you book. Sixty minutes here means sixty minutes of hands on the table. The consultation beforehand and getting dressed afterward sit outside the booked time. In a great many places a sixty minute massage is fifty minutes of treatment and nobody mentions it.

How Often Should I Book

Every four to six weeks for general maintenance. If you are working on a specific long standing problem, three or four appointments two weeks apart will achieve considerably more than one appointment repeated whenever things get bad again.

Can I Have A Massage While Pregnant

From the second trimester onward we offer a dedicated pregnancy massage, worked side lying with proper support rather than face down, at gentle pressure and with no deep work on the legs. Tell us your due date at booking. If you have any complications or concerns, please check with your doctor or midwife first.

Will I Be Sore Afterward

After deep tissue, quite possibly, for twenty four to forty eight hours and similar to the day after a good workout. That is normal. Move gently rather than resting completely, drink more water than usual and skip the heavy gym session for a day. Sharp or worsening pain is not normal and we want to hear about it.

What Is A Body Scrub

A full body exfoliation using a salt or sugar preparation worked over every area, then rinsed off and finished with oil. Forty five minutes, and the change in how skin feels is the most immediate result of anything on this menu. It is the treatment to book before a holiday or a self tan.

Can I Combine A Scrub And A Massage

Yes, and it is $135 rather than $165 booked separately. The scrub always goes first, because exfoliated skin absorbs massage oil considerably better and doing it the other way round scrubs the oil straight back off. It runs as one appointment of just under two hours.

Are There Reasons I Cannot Have A Massage

A history of blood clots, anticoagulant medication, uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent surgery, a fracture, an active infection or fever, and cancer treatment all need discussing first, and some need your doctor's clearance. For body scrubs we cannot treat sunburn, broken skin, a skin condition in flare, or skin waxed within forty eight hours. Tell us at booking and we will adapt or reschedule rather than turn you away.
