Consultation Before Any Work Begins

Hair services at Erothots cover four things: cutting, colour, structure and finishing. Cutting decides the shape. Colour decides the depth and tone. Structure covers smoothing and conditioning treatments that change how the hair behaves. Finishing is the blow dry or the styling that makes all three visible.

Most appointments combine two of them. A colour appointment nearly always includes a finish, and a keratin treatment usually follows a cut so the smoothing works with the shape rather than flattening it. We book the time for the whole job rather than the headline service, which is why our slots run longer than most salons in the area.

Every appointment starts with a consultation on dry hair in natural light. Wet hair lies about its texture and salon lighting lies about tone, so we look at both properly before anything is mixed. If what you are asking for is not achievable in one visit, you will be told at that point rather than three hours later.

The salon sits in the same building as our fashion studio. That matters more than it sounds for bridal and occasion work, because the hair can be designed around a neckline that we have actually seen on you.

The consultation is the service. Everything after it is execution.

Women's Haircut

A cut is a structure, not a picture. We look at how your hair grows, where it separates and what it does on the days you do nothing to it, then build a shape that behaves on those days too. Layers are cut to the density you actually have rather than to a standard formula.

Includes consultation on dry hair, wash and scalp massage, precision cut and a full finish. Fringe trims between appointments are free for cut clients.

Hair Color

Full head colour, root retouch, gloss and grey coverage. We match tone against your skin in daylight at the door rather than under salon bulbs, because a shade that looks warm in here can read orange outside.

Toner and gloss are included in the quoted price. Being told at the till that the toner was extra is one of the most common complaints we hear about other salons, so we removed the possibility.

Balayage

Lightener painted by hand rather than packed into foils, so the regrowth line stays soft and you are not tied to a six week return. Done properly, balayage should still look deliberate four or five months later.

The number of sessions depends on where your hair is starting. Going several levels lighter from a box dye base is a plan, not a single appointment, and we will say so before you book rather than after.

Blow Dry And Hair Styling

Wash, blow dry and finish for an event, a shoot, or a Friday that needs no reason. Smooth, soft waves, volume, or a set that holds through a long evening rather than collapsing by nine.

Ask for the walkthrough version and the stylist will talk you through the sections and the brush angles as they work, so you can get closer to it yourself at home.

Keratin Treatment

A smoothing treatment that reduces frizz and cuts drying time, usually by half. It is not a permanent straightener and we will not sell it as one. Your curl pattern is loosened and calmed, not removed.

We run a strand test first, and we offer formaldehyde free formulas as standard. Results typically hold three to five months depending on how often you wash and whether your shampoo contains sulphates.

Hair Spa Treatment

Deep conditioning for the lengths and a proper treatment for the scalp, which is where most hair problems actually start. We choose the mask by porosity, so fine hair is not weighed down and coarse hair is not left still thirsty.

Includes an extended scalp massage, steam where it helps, and a rinse cool enough to close the cuticle. Worth booking before a colour appointment rather than after.

Bridal Hair Styling

A trial and then the day itself. The trial happens with your veil, your comb and your actual neckline in the room, because a style that works with a high neck can look wrong the moment the shoulders are bare.

This is where having a fashion studio in the same building earns its keep. If your dress is being fitted here, we can see the back detail before we design anything around it. Bridal party styling can be booked alongside.

  1. Stage 01

    Consultation On Dry Hair

    In daylight, before anything is washed. We look at growth pattern, density, porosity and existing colour history, and ask what you actually do to your hair on a normal morning.

  2. Stage 02

    The Honest Answer

    You are told what is achievable today, what needs more than one session, and what would damage your hair to attempt. The price is confirmed here, not at the end.

  3. Stage 03

    Patch Or Strand Test

    A patch test at least forty eight hours before any colour, and a strand test before lightening or smoothing. This is not optional and we will move your booking rather than skip it.

  4. Stage 04

    Wash And Scalp Work

    A proper wash with a scalp massage, and the shampoo chosen for what is about to happen rather than whatever is nearest the basin.

  5. Stage 05

    The Service

    Carried out by the stylist you booked, start to finish. You are not handed to an assistant halfway through, and nobody starts a second client in your slot.

    Finish And Home Plan

    A full finish, then a short honest routine for keeping it. If you already own something that works, we will say so rather than sell you a replacement.

Tia McNamara

I am Tia, founder and CEO of Erothots. Seven years ago this was not a business. It was me practising on friends, with no plan and no expectation that anyone would pay for it. I found out quite quickly that I loved the work, and word of mouth did the rest.

It began as an Instagram page called Lashes By Tia, run around a full time job. For seven years I worked at Bridge Street Café alongside building the business, and when the owners retired I had a decision to make. I made the frightening one and took Erothots full time.

Since then the studio has grown well beyond where it started. I now offer a full range of treatments, run my own eyelash brand, and work with a team of qualified stylists who look after the hair side of the salon. The last two years asked a lot of me, and one of the more useful things I learned was how to work within my capacity rather than beyond it.

My job now is to protect the standard rather than do every appointment myself. That means booking honest amounts of time, insisting on patch tests, paying for training, and hiring people who will tell a client the truth about what their hair can take. If something is not right, I want to hear about it directly.

What Usually Goes Wrong At Other Salons

These are the six things clients tell us about their last salon, before they tell us anything about their hair. None of this is unique to any one place, it is how much of the industry is set up.

The Five Minute Consultation

A quick word at the basin with wet hair, under artificial light, then straight into the work. Wet hair hides texture and salon bulbs hide tone, so the decision is made on bad information.

The Toner Surcharge

A colour is quoted at one price, then toner, gloss or bond protector appears on the bill as a separate line. The final figure lands twenty or thirty percent above the quote.

Being Passed Around

Consulted by one person, coloured by another, finished by a third. Nobody carries the whole picture, and the finish rarely matches what was discussed at the start.

Slots Too Short For The Job

A full balayage booked into ninety minutes because the diary needs the turnover. The work gets rushed at the point where patience matters most, which is the toner.

Skipped Patch Tests

Colour applied with no patch test because the client is in a hurry or the salon is behind. Reactions to PPD are uncommon but they are serious, and the risk is entirely avoidable.

We are not the right salon for everyone, and it is better to know that now than at the door.

We Are Not The Cheapest

Longer slots and included toner mean our prices sit above a walk in chain. If price is the only factor, we are honestly not your best option.

Appointments Only

No walk ins, because the diary is built around full length appointments. Same day is sometimes possible, but never guaranteed.

Closed Tuesday And Wednesday

Two closed days a week. If those are the only days you are free, we will not be able to fit you in at all.

Colour Needs Advance Notice

The patch test rule means no first time colour on the same day you enquire. Allow at least three days for any colour booking.

Booking two services together. A cut with colour, or a hair spa before a colour, is usually quicker and cheaper as one appointment than two. Ask when you enquire and we will price the combination.
Before You Arrive

How To Prepare For Your Appointment

  • Come with dry hair. We consult on dry hair, so arriving with it wet or freshly styled means we cannot see what it actually does.
  • Do not wash it the same morning. One or two day old hair holds colour better and behaves more honestly in a consultation.
  • Bring your colour history. Box dye, henna, previous lightening and any home toners, going back at least two years. This changes what is safely possible.
  • Book your patch test early. At least forty eight hours ahead of any colour, and it takes about two minutes at the desk.
  • Bring three reference photos, not thirty. The overlap between three tells us far more than a folder of fifty.
  • Say if you have an event. The date changes what we recommend, especially for colour that needs a settling week.
  • Mention medication or scalp conditions. Some medications and treatments affect how hair takes colour or how the scalp reacts.
Planning a wedding. Book the bridal hair trial after the dress fitting, not before. The neckline decides the style, and doing it the other way round means designing twice.

How To Keep The Result At Home

Four habits that decide whether your colour lasts six weeks or twelve.

Care 01

Wash Cooler And Less Often

Hot water opens the cuticle and lets colour out. Cooler rinses and one fewer wash a week will do more for your colour than any product on the shelf.

Care 02

Check For Sulphates

Sulphate shampoos strip colour and shorten keratin results considerably. This is the single most common reason a treatment fades early.

Care 03

Always Use Heat Protection

Straighteners and dryers reach temperatures that break bonds. Heat protection is not optional if you use tools more than once a week.

Care 04

Book The Next One Before You Leave

Colour looks best when it is refreshed on schedule rather than rescued. Six to eight weeks for roots, four to five months for balayage.

Hair Services Questions And Answers

Do I Need A Patch Test Before Colour

Yes, at least forty eight hours before any colour service, including a root retouch and including regular clients. It takes about two minutes at the desk. Reactions to hair dye are uncommon but they can be severe, and we will move a booking rather than proceed without one.

How Much Does A Hair Appointment Cost

Blow dry from $45, cut from $55, hair spa from $75, colour from $95, bridal from $150, balayage from $185 and keratin from $220. Long or very thick hair can need extra product or time, and that is quoted at consultation before any work starts.

Can I Go Blonde In One Appointment

Sometimes, and often not. It depends entirely on what is already on your hair. A virgin base can lift several levels safely in one visit, whereas box dye or previous lightening usually needs two or three sessions spaced apart. You will be told which applies to you at the consultation, before you commit to anything.

How Long Does Balayage Last

Four to five months before it needs redoing, because the regrowth line is soft by design. A toner refresh at around the eight to ten week mark keeps the tone clean and is much cheaper than a full appointment.

Is A Keratin Treatment The Same As Permanent Straightening

No. Keratin smooths and calms the hair, cutting frizz and drying time, but your curl pattern is loosened rather than removed. Permanent straightening changes the bond structure and cannot be reversed. If you want poker straight hair permanently, keratin is not the right treatment and we will say so.

Do You Work With Curly And Textured Hair

Yes. Curly hair is cut dry and in its natural pattern, not stretched flat and cut wet, because a curl cut wet lands in a completely different place once it dries. Say when booking so the right stylist and the right slot length are set aside.

How Far In Advance Should I Book Bridal Hair

Three to six months for the wedding date, with the trial about six to eight weeks before. Book the trial after your dress fitting rather than before, so the style can be designed around the actual neckline and back detail.

Can I Request A Specific Stylist

Yes, and we encourage it. Name your stylist when you enquire and we will book their diary. If they are away or fully booked on your date, we will tell you rather than quietly reassign you to someone else.

Do You Take Walk Ins

No. The diary is built around full length appointments so nobody gets rushed, which means walk ins would come at another client's expense. Same day slots occasionally open up, so it is always worth calling.

What Happens If I Do Not Like The Result

Tell us before you leave, or call within seven days. Adjustments within that window are made without charge. We would far rather fix it than have you living with something you are unhappy about.

Do You Charge Extra For Long Or Thick Hair

Only where extra product or extra time is genuinely needed, and only when it has been quoted to you at the consultation. It never appears as a surprise on the bill at the end.

Which Days Are You Open

Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The salon is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturday closes early at 2:00 PM and Sunday opens later at 1:30 PM, so those days fill first.
