Four Ways To Work With The Studio

Each one has its own page with the process, the timeline and what is included. Start with whichever describes your problem rather than your budget.

Custom Tailoring

A pattern drafted to your measurements rather than a size adjusted to fit you. Cloth is cut in our workroom, the garment is built over two fittings, and nothing leaves until it sits properly on the body it was made for.

  • Made to measure and full commissions. Jackets, dresses, trousers, occasion wear and anything structured enough to need a real pattern.
  • Alterations on pieces you already own. Hems, waists, sleeves, taking in and letting out. Bring the shoes you will wear with it.
  • Fragile or previously altered garments assessed first. If cloth will not tolerate what you are asking, we say so before starting rather than afterward.

Designer Collections

Pieces designed and produced here in small numbered runs rather than ordered in from a wholesaler. Because they are made in the same workroom, any piece you buy can be adjusted to you before you take it home.

  • Limited runs, not warehouse stock. When a run is finished it is finished, and we would rather tell you that than restock something badly.
  • Fitting included with purchase. A bought piece adjusted properly beats a bespoke piece you did not need.
  • Cloth and construction disclosed. You are told what a piece is made from and how it is finished before you decide.

Studio Lookbook

Finished work photographed on real people rather than flat on a table. A garment lying still tells you almost nothing about how it moves, and how it moves is most of what you are paying for.

  • See the construction before you commission. Shoulders, drape, how a hem falls and where a seam sits.
  • Bring a reference from it. Pointing at something we actually made is more useful than a saved image from elsewhere.
  • Photographed only with permission. Every client is asked, every time, and a no costs nothing.

Bespoke Styling

One to one work on the clothes you already own rather than on a shopping list. Most people do not need more clothes. They need to know which of the ones they have are working and which are quietly ruining every outfit they appear in.

  • An honest edit of your wardrobe. Which includes being told what to stop wearing. That part is uncomfortable for about a minute and it is most of the value.
  • Buy less, alter more. Several pieces you already own are usually two seams away from being your favorites.
  • Event and travel planning. Working backward from what you actually have, not forward from a catalog.

Section 02Five Stages

How A Commission Runs

The same sequence every time, so you always know what happens next and what it will cost before it does.

Stage 01

Consultation And Measurements

What you want it for, what you already own that works, and a full set of measurements. If a commission is not the right answer, we will say so and point you at an alteration instead.

Stage 02

A Written Quote

The design, the cloth, the number of fittings included and the expected timeline, in writing. Work starts once you accept it and pay the deposit, and not before.

Stage 03

Pattern And First Cut

Your pattern is drafted and the cloth is cut to it. We tell you the date cutting is scheduled to begin, because that is the point after which a deposit stops being refundable.

Stage 04

Two Fittings, Three If Needed

Bring the shoes and undergarments you intend to wear with the piece. A hem measured in the wrong shoes is a hem measured twice. A third fitting is free where the garment genuinely requires it.

Stage 05

Finishing And Collection

Hand finishing, a final press and care notes written for the specific cloth. Your pattern stays on file, so a second piece in future starts from a fitted block rather than from scratch.

What Happens In The Workroom

Four things that separate a studio from a shop, and one honest limit.

Patterns Drafted Here

Not a block bought in and nudged. Your pattern is cut to your measurements and kept on file for anything you commission afterward.

Craft 02

Cloth Cut In House

On our own table, by the person who drafted the pattern. Nothing is sent out to a third party and nothing comes back different from what was ordered.

Craft 03

Seams Finished By Hand

The parts of a garment nobody sees are the parts that decide how long it lasts and how it hangs after the tenth wear.

Craft 04

Your Pattern Stays

Kept with your notes, so a second commission starts from a block already fitted to you and takes considerably less time.

Drafted, Cut And Finished In Our Own Workroom

The honest limit. A commission is six to eight weeks, longer for heavily structured or beaded work. If you are working to an event date, tell us at the first appointment and we will say plainly whether it is achievable rather than agreeing and then rushing the finishing, which is always the part that shows.

The Terms In Plain Language

Everything that decides money and dates, stated here rather than buried at the bottom of a contract.

Money

Refundable Until Cutting Starts

A deposit is taken before a commission begins and comes off the final balance. It is refundable right up until cloth is cut, and not afterward, because cloth cut to your measurements cannot be used for anybody else.

We always tell you the scheduled cutting date, so you have a clear point before which you can change your mind.

Changes

Told Before, Not After

Design changes after work has begun can affect both price and timeline. We tell you what the effect is before carrying out the change rather than presenting it on collection day.

Additional fittings caused by missed appointments or significant measurement changes may be chargeable.

Collection

Thirty Days To Collect

Finished pieces should be collected within thirty days of us telling you they are ready. Storage is limited and a charge may apply beyond that, which we would tell you about before applying.

We will never dispose of anybody's garment without repeated written attempts to reach them first.

Section 05Both Sides

Pair The Studio With The Salon

The outfit and the face turn up to the same event. Being able to sequence a fitting, a wax, a facial and a bridal trial around each other, in the right order and with the right gaps, is the practical reason people book here.

Sequencing

The Order That Works

Fittings go before anything involving oil or product on the skin. Waxing needs forty eight hours clear of a scrub. Hair and makeup go last. Tell us when you book and we write one schedule rather than four.

One Morning

One Building, One Team

A final fitting and a bridal trial in the same visit, with no travel between them and no handover. For weddings we write a single run sheet covering the garment side and the salon side together.
