Nothing Goes Back In The Pot
Double dipping is when a spatula that has already touched your skin is dipped back into the shared wax pot for more. It is quicker, it wastes less wax, and it is completely routine in a great many salons.
It also means the pot now contains whatever was on your skin, kept warm, ready for the next person. The wax is not hot enough to sterilize anything, whatever anybody tells you. This is the single most important question to ask any waxing salon and almost nobody asks it.
- One spatula, one dip, then binned. Every time. On a full body appointment that is a great many spatulas, and that is simply the cost of doing it properly.
- Fresh couch roll for every client. Changed in front of you, along with a clean towel and fresh disposable underwear if you want it.
- Gloves worn throughout. Changed between areas on the same client, not just between clients.
- Wax heated to a working temperature, not a hot one. Tested on the inside of the wrist before it goes anywhere near you, every single pot, every single time.
- Nothing waxed over broken skin. Cuts, spots that have been picked, sunburn or any inflammation and we work around it or stop.
- Pots cleaned and wax replaced on a schedule. Not topped up indefinitely, which is what happens when a pot has never been emptied.
Ask us to show you. Genuinely. If you want to watch the spatula go in the bin, say so and we will make a point of it. Anyone doing this properly will be pleased you asked rather than defensive about it.
